A Brief History of Mar Thoma Church Melbourne Parish

The early beginning and growth of the Mar Thoma Congregation in Melbourne may be viewed in the context of several Episcopal visits to Australia from 1970. A homegroup of the Mar Thoma people was formed after the visit of Bishop Thomas Mar Athanasious in 1980. Initially, the homegroup met once a year and then it became twice yearly on a regular basis in various homes for Bible study and fellowship. Later we moved to a church hall in Vermont and started conducting Divine Services.

Joshua 1:1-9 First Lesson

1. After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying,

2. “My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites.

3. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I promised to Moses.

4. From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea in the west shall be your territory.

5. No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.

6. Be strong and courageous; for you shall put this people in possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them.

7. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go.

8. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall be successful.

9. I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Preparations for the Invasion

1. मूसा यहोवा का सेवक था। नून का पुत्र यहोशू मूसा का सहायक था। मूसा के मरने के बाद, यहोवा ने यहोशू से बातें कीं। यहोवा ने यहोशू से कहा,

2. “मेरा सेवक मूसा मर गया। अब ये लोग और तुम यरदन नदी के पार जाओ। तुम्हें उस देश में जाना चाहिए जिसे मैं इस्राएल के लोगों को अर्थात् तुम्हें दे रहा हूँ।

3. मैंने मूसा को यह वचन दिया था कि यह देश मैं तुम्हें दूँगा। इसलिए मैं तुम्हें वह हर एक प्रदेश दूँगा, जिस किसी स्थान पर भी तुम जाओगे।

4. हित्तियों का पूरा देश, मरुभूमि और लबानोन से लेकर बड़ी नदी तक (परात नदी तक) तुम्हारा होगा और यहाँ से पश्चिम में भूमध्यसागर तक (सूर्य के डूबने के स्थान तक) का प्रदेश तुम्हारी सीमा के भीतर होगा।

5. मैं मूसा के साथ था और मैं उसी तरह तुम्हारे साथ रहूँगा। तुम्हारे पूरे जीवन में, तुम्हें कोई भी व्यक्ति रोकने में समर्थ नहीं होगा। मैं तुम्हें छोड़ूँगा नहीं। मैं कभी तुमसे दूर नहीं होऊँगा।

6. “यहोशू, तुम्हें दृढ़ और साहसी होना चाहिये! तुम्हें इन लोगों का अगुवा होना चाहिये जिससे वे अपना देश ले सकें। यह वही देश है जिसे मैंने उन्हें देने के लिये उनके पूर्वजों को वचन दिया था।

7. किन्तु तुम्हें एक दूसरी बात के विषय में भी दृढ़ और साहसी रहना होगा। तुम्हें उन आदेशों का पालन निश्चय के साथ करना चाहिए, जिन्हें मेरे सेवक मूसा ने तुम्हें दिया। यदि तुम उसकी शिक्षाओं का ठीक—ठीक पालन करोगे, तो तुम जो कुछ करोगे उसमें सफल होगे।

8. उस व्यवस्था की किताब में लिखी गई बातों को सदा यादा रखो। तुम उस किताब का अध्ययन दिन रात करो, तभी तुम उसमें लिखे गए आदेशों के पालन के विषय में विश्वस्त रह सकते हो। यदि तुम यह करोगे, तो तुम बुद्धिमान बनोगे और जो कुछ करोगे उसमें सफल होगे।

9. याद रखो, कि मैंने तुम्हें दृढ़ और साहसी बने रहने का आदेश दिया था। इसलिए कभी भयभीत न होओ, क्योंकि तुम्हारा परमेश्वर यहोवा तुम्हारे साथ सभी जगह रहेगा, जहाँ तुम जाओगे।”

1. യഹോവയുടെ ദാസനായ മോശെയുടെ മരണശേഷം യഹോവ നൂന്റെ മകനായി മോശെയുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷകനായ യോശുവയോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു:

2. എന്റെ ദാസനായ മോശെ മരിച്ചു; ആകയാൽ നീയും ഈ ജനമൊക്കെയും പുറപ്പെട്ടു യോർദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ ഞാൻ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾക്കു കൊടുക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തേക്കു കടന്നുപോകുവിൻ.

3. നിങ്ങളുടെ ഉള്ളങ്കാൽ ചവിട്ടുന്ന സ്ഥലമൊക്കെയും ഞാൻ മോശെയോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ നിങ്ങൾക്കു തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. മരുഭൂമിയും ഈ ലെബാനോനും തുടങ്ങി ഫ്രാത്ത് എന്ന മഹാനദിവരെയും ഹിത്യരുടെ ദേശം ഒക്കെയും പടിഞ്ഞാറു മഹാസമുദ്രംവരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ അതിരായിരിക്കും.

5. നിന്റെ ജീവകാലത്തു ഒരിക്കലും ഒരു മനുഷ്യനും നിന്റെ നേരെ നിൽക്കയില്ല; ഞാൻ മോശെയോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നതു പോലെ നിന്നോടുകൂടെയും ഇരിക്കും; ഞാൻ നിന്നെ കൈ വിടുകയില്ല, ഉപേക്ഷിക്കയും ഇല്ല.

6. ഉറപ്പും ധൈര്യവും ഉള്ളവനായിരിക്ക; ഞാൻ അവർക്കു കൊടുക്കുമെന്നു അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു സത്യം ചെയ്ത ദേശം നീ ഈ ജനത്തിന്നു അവകാശമായി വിഭാഗിക്കും.

7. എന്റെ ദാസനായ മോശെ നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ന്യായപ്രമാണമൊക്കെയും അനുസരിച്ചു നടക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നല്ല ഉറപ്പും ധൈര്യവും ഉള്ളവനായി മാത്രം ഇരിക്ക; ചെല്ലുന്നേടത്തൊക്കെയും നീ ശുഭമായിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അതു വിട്ടു ഇടത്തോട്ടോ വലത്തോട്ടോ മാറരുതു.

8. ഈ ന്യായപ്രാമണപുസ്തകത്തിലുള്ളതു നിന്റെ വായിൽനിന്നു നീങ്ങിപ്പോകരുതു; അതിൽ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും പ്രമാണിച്ചുനടക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ രാവും പകലും അതു ധ്യാനിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കേണം; എന്നാൽ നിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി സാധിക്കും; നീ കൃതാർത്ഥനായും ഇരിക്കും.

9. നിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ നീ പോകുന്നേടത്തൊക്കെയും നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു ഉറപ്പും ധൈര്യവുമുള്ളവനായിരിക്ക; ഭയപ്പെടരുതു, ഭ്രമിക്കയും അരുതു എന്നു ഞാൻ നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചുവല്ലോ.
Galatians 2:1-10 Second Lesson

1. Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me.

2. I went up in response to a revelation. Then I laid before them (though only in a private meeting with the acknowledged leaders) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure that I was not running, or had not run, in vain.

3. But even Titus, who was with me, was not compelled to be circumcised, though he was a Greek.

4. But because of false believers secretly brought in, who slipped in to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might enslave us—

5. we did not submit to them even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might always remain with you.

6. And from those who were supposed to be acknowledged leaders (what they actually were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those leaders contributed nothing to me.

7. On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel for the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel for the circumcised

8. (for he who worked through Peter making him an apostle to the circumcised also worked through me in sending me to the Gentiles),

9. and when James and Cephas and John, who were acknowledged pillars, recognized the grace that had been given to me, they gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

10. They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor, which was actually what I was eager to do. Paul Rebukes Peter at Antioch

1. चौदह साल बाद मैं फिर से यरूशलेम गया। बरनाबास मेरे साथ था और तितुस को भी मैंने साथ ले लिया था।

2. मैं परमेश्वर के दिव्य दर्शन के कारण वहाँ गया था। मैं ग़ैर यहूदियों के बीच जिस सुसमाचार का उपदेश दिया करता हूँ, उसी सुसमाचार को मैंने एक निजी सभा के बीच कलीसिया के मुखियाओं को सुनाया। मैं वहाँ इसलिए गया था कि परमेश्वर ने मुझे दर्शाया था कि मुझे वहाँ जाना चाहिए। ताकि जो काम मैंने पिछले दिनों किया था, या जिसे मैं कर रहा हूँ, वह बेकार न चला जाये।

3. परिणाम स्वरूप तितुस तक को, जो मेरे साथ था, यद्यपि वह यूनानी है, फिर भी उसे ख़तना कराने के लिये विवश नहीं किया गया।

4. किन्तु उन झूठे बंधुओं के कारण जो लुके-छिपे हमारे बीच भेदिये के रूप में यीशु मसीह में हमारी स्वतन्त्रता का पता लगाने को इसलिए घुस आये थे कि हमें दास बना सकें, यह बात उठी

5. किन्तु हमने उनकी अधीनता में घुटने नहीं टेके ताकि वह सत्य जो सुसमाचार में निवास करता है, तुम्हारे भीतर बना रहे।

6. किन्तु जाने माने प्रतिष्ठित लोगों से मुझे कुछ नहीं मिला। (वे कैसे भी थे, मुझे इससे कोई अंतर नहीं पड़ता। बिना किसी भेदभाव के सभी मनुष्य परमेश्वर के सामने एक जैसे हैं।) उन सम्मानित लोगों से मुझे या मेरे सुसमाचार को कोई लाभ नहीं हुआ।

7. किन्तु इन मुखियाओं ने देखा कि परमेश्वर ने मुझे वैसे ही एक विशेष काम सौंपा है जैसे पतरस को परमेश्वर ने यहूदियों को सुसमाचार सुनाने का काम दिया था। किन्तु परमेश्वर ने ग़ैर यहूदी लोगों को सुसमाचार सुनाने का काम मुझे दिया।

8. परमेश्वर ने पतरस को एक प्रेरित के रूप में काम करने की शक्ति दी थी। पतरस ग़ैर यहूदी लोगों के लिए एक प्रेरित है। परमेश्वर ने मुझे भी एक प्रेरित के रूप में काम करने की शक्ति दी है। किन्तु मैं उन लोगों का प्रेरित हूँ जो यहूदी नहीं हैं।

9. इस प्रकार उन्होंने मुझ पर परमेश्वर के उस अनुग्रह को समझ लिया और कलीसिया के स्तम्भ समझे जाने वाले याकूब, पतरस और यूहन्ना ने बरनाबास और मुझसे साझेदारी के प्रतीक रूप में हाथ मिला लिया। और वे सहमत हो गये कि हम विधर्मियों के बीच उपदेश देते रहें और वे यहूदियों के बीच।

10. उन्होंने हमसे बस यही कहा कि हम उनके निर्धनों का ध्यान रखें। और मैं इसी काम को न केवल करना चाहता था बल्कि इसके लिए लालायित भी था। पौलुस की दृष्टि में पतरस अनुचित

1. പതിന്നാലു ആണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഞാൻ ബർന്നബാസുമായി തീതൊസിനെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു വീണ്ടും യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു പോയി.

2. ഞാൻ ഒരു വെളിപ്പാടു അനുസരിച്ചത്രേ പോയതു; ഞാൻ ഓടുന്നതോ ഓടിയതോ വെറുതേ എന്നു വരാതിരിപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയിൽ പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്ന സുവിശേഷം അവരോടു, വിശേഷാൽ പ്രമാണികളോടു വിവരിച്ചു.

3. എന്റെ കൂടെയുള്ള തീതൊസ് യവനൻ എങ്കിലും പരിച്ഛേദന ഏല്പാൻ അവനെ ആരും നിർബ്ബന്ധിച്ചില്ല.

4. അതോ, നുഴഞ്ഞുവന്ന കള്ളസ്സഹോദരന്മാർ നിമിത്തമായിരുന്നു; അവർ നമ്മെ അടിമപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടതിന്നു ക്രിസ്തുയേശുവിൽ നമുക്കുള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ നുഴഞ്ഞുവന്നിരുന്നു.

6. പ്രമാണികളായവരോ അവർ പണ്ടു എങ്ങനെയുള്ളവർ ആയിരുന്നാലും എനിക്കു ഏതുമില്ല; ദൈവം മനുഷ്യന്റെ മുഖം നോക്കുന്നില്ല; പ്രമാണികൾ എനിക്കു ഒന്നും ഗ്രഹിപ്പിച്ചുതന്നിട്ടില്ല.

7. നേരെ മറിച്ചു പരിച്ഛേദനയുടെ അപ്പൊസ്തലത്വത്തിന്നായി പത്രൊസിനോടുകൂടെ വ്യാപരിച്ചവൻ ജാതികൾക്കായി എന്നോടുകൂടെയും വ്യാപരിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു

8. പത്രൊസിന്നു പരിച്ഛേദനക്കാരുടെ ഇടയിലെ സുവിശേഷഘോഷണം എന്നപോലെ എനിക്കു അഗ്രചർമ്മക്കാരുടെ ഇടയിലെ സുവിശേഷഘോഷണം

9. ഭരമേല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കണ്ടും എനിക്കു ലഭിച്ച കൃപ അറിഞ്ഞുംകൊണ്ടു തൂണുകളായി എണ്ണപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന യാക്കോബും കേഫാവും യോഹന്നാനും ഞങ്ങൾ ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയിലും അവർ പരിച്ഛേദനക്കാരുടെ ഇടയിലും സുവിശേഷം അറിയിപ്പാന്തക്കവണ്ണം എനിക്കും ബർന്നബാസിന്നും കൂട്ടായ്മയുടെ വലങ്കൈ തന്നു.

2 Peter 3:14-18 Epistle

14. Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15. and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16. speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17. You therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

14. इसलिए हे प्रिय मित्रों, क्योंकि तुम इन बातों की बाट जोह रहे हो, पूरा प्रयत्न करो कि प्रभु की दृष्टि में और शांति में निर्दोष और कलंक रहित पाए जाओ।

15. हमारे प्रभु के धीरज को उद्धार समझो। जैसा कि हमारे प्रिय बन्धु पौलुस ने परमेश्वर के द्वारा दिए गए विवेक के अनुसार तुम्हें लिखा था।

16. अपने अन्य सभी पत्रों के समान उस पत्र में उसने इन बातों के विषय में कहा है। उन पत्रों में कुछ बातें ऐसी हैं जिनका समझना कठिन है। अज्ञानी और अस्थिर लोग उनके अर्थ का अनर्थ करते हैं। दूसरे शास्त्रों के साथ भी वे ऐसा ही करते हैं। इससे वे अपने ही पैरों पर कुल्हाड़ी मारते हैं।

17. सो हे प्रिय मित्रो, क्योंकि तुम्हें ये बातें पहले से ही पता हैं इसलिए सावधान रहो कि तुम बुराइयों और व्यवस्थाहीन लोगों के द्वारा भटक कर अपनी स्थिर स्थिति से डिग न जाओ।

18. बल्कि हमारे प्रभु तथा उद्धारकर्ता यीशु मसीह की अनुग्रह और ज्ञान में तुम आगे बढ़ते जाओ। अब और अनन्त समय तक उसकी महिमा होती रहे।

14. അതുകൊണ്ടു പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, നിങ്ങൾ ഇവെക്കായി കാത്തിരിക്കയാൽ അവൻ നിങ്ങളെ കറയും കളങ്കവും ഇല്ലാത്തവരായി സമാധാനത്തോടെ കാണ്മാൻ ഉത്സാഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നമ്മുടെ കർത്താവിന്റെ ദീർഘക്ഷമയെ രക്ഷ എന്നു വിചാരിപ്പിൻ.

15. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ നമ്മുടെ പ്രിയ സഹോദരനായ പൌലൊസും തനിക്കു ലഭിച്ച ജ്ഞാനത്തിന്നു തക്കവണ്ണം നിങ്ങൾക്കും ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു സംസാരിക്കുന്ന സകല ലേഖനങ്ങളിലും എഴുതീട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ.

16. അവയിൽ ഗ്രഹിപ്പാൻ പ്രയാസമുള്ളതു ചിലതുണ്ടു. അറിവില്ലാത്തവരും അസ്ഥിരന്മാരുമായവർ ശേഷം തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെപ്പോലെ അതും തങ്ങളുടെ നാശത്തിന്നായി കോട്ടിക്കളയുന്നു.

17. എന്നാൽ പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, നിങ്ങൾ മുമ്പുകൂട്ടി അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു അധർമ്മികളുടെ വഞ്ചനയിൽ കുടുങ്ങി സ്വന്ത സ്ഥിരതവിട്ടു വീണു പോകാതിരിപ്പാൻ സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊൾവിൻ,

18. കൃപയിലും നമ്മുടെ കർത്താവും രക്ഷിതാവുമായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിലും വളരുവിൻ. അവന്നു ഇപ്പോഴും എന്നെന്നേക്കും മഹത്വം. ആമേൻ.

25. But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them.

26. It will not be so among you, but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant,

27. and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave,

28. just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many.”

25. तब यीशु ने उन्हें अपने पास बुलाकर कहा, “तुम जानते हो कि गैर यहूदी राजा, लोगों पर अपनी शक्ति दिखाना चाहते हैं और उनके महत्वपूर्ण नेता, लोगों पर अपना अधिकार जताना चाहते हैं।

28. तुम्हें मनुष्य के पुत्र जैसा ही होना चाहिये जो सेवा कराने नहीं, बल्कि सेवा करने और बहुतों के छुटकारे के लिये अपने प्राणों की फिरौती देने आया है।” अंधों को आँखें

25. യേശുവോ അവരെ അടുക്കെ വിളിച്ചു: “ജാതികളുടെ അധിപന്മാർ അവരിൽ കർത്തൃത്വം ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നും മഹത്തുക്കൾ അവരുടെമേൽ അധികാരം നടത്തുന്നു എന്നും നിങ്ങൾ അറിയുന്നു.

26. നിങ്ങളിൽ അങ്ങനെ അരുതു: നിങ്ങളിൽ മഹാൻ ആകുവാൻ ഇച്ഛിക്കുന്നവനെല്ലാം നിങ്ങളുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷക്കാരൻ ആകേണം.

27. നിങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാമൻ ആകുവാൻ ഇചഛിക്കുന്നവനെല്ലാം നിങ്ങളുടെ ദാസൻ ആകേണം.

28. മനുഷ്യപുത്രൻ ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്യിപ്പാനല്ല ശുശ്രൂഷിപ്പാനും അനേകർക്കു വേണ്ടി തന്റെ ജീവനെ മറുവിലയായി കൊടുപ്പാനും വന്നതുപോലെ തന്നേ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

The ‘Melbourne Mar Thoma Development Fund’ was constituted in August 2012. The fund aims to purchase land or buildings for setting up a center involving facilities for retreats and homes for the elderly which are for members of the Mar Thoma Church, Melbourne.
